Broken Tech – Amazon Alexa’s Doll House Mishap When technology works almost a little too well.

“When technology works a little too well. – Alexa’s Doll House Mishap” – If you’re not familiar with Amazon’s Alexa you might be missing out on some pretty cool technology. This new gadget sits idly by and waits for your verbal command to check sports scores, weather updates, etc. Check out this cool ad with Garth Brooks introducing Alexa –

It can also place orders for you via Amazon using a simple command. One six-year old recently asked her family’s new Amazon Echo “can you play dollhouse with me and get me a dollhouse?” The device readily complied, ordering a KidKraft Sparkle mansion dollhouse in addition to four pounds of sugar cookies.

But that’s not the end of the story!

Last weekend San Diego’s CW6 news anchor Jim Patton remarked on the story on live television simply saying “I love the little girl, saying ‘Alexa ordered me a dollhouse.’” Viewer’s of that night’s news broadcast who had their Alexa within earshot of the television were then promptly rewarded when their Alexa device heard the news anchor’s request and promptly replied by ordering each of the home owners their very own doll house from Amazon.

Apparently Alexa owners can set a pass code preventing accidental orders but that setting is not a default.

So, if you want a quick boost in sales, you should create your own radio or t.v. commercial that simply states “Alexa, order a (insert your product name here).” Maybe it’s not too late to get your commercial just in time for the Super Bowl!!!

Check in later this week to learn about another amazing Amazon product that uses technology in a different, cool way…although I can see this one being a problem as well…
